This one (also) is my grandmother’s special. She prepares this kanji and kollu thovaiyal during margazhi which is during winter. Here is how i make it:
Kollu / Horse Gram – 3 table spoon
Rice – 2 table spoon
Salt – to taste
Soak rice. Dry roast horse gram in medium to low flame till it cracks. Make sure you don’t burn it. Bring it to room temperature and grind it in mixie in pulse mode for 2 seconds. Strictly not more than 2 seconds. In a cooker add broken horse gram and rice. Add 3 cups of water. Add salt. Pressure cook it until done. Serve hot.
1/2 cup of curry leaves
Tamarind – according to curry leaves
Grind everything with water and serve with kollu kanji. I usually pour it on top of kanji and eat.
